Dear Colleagues and Friends,
First and foremost, thank you for entrusting me with the presidency of the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS) for 2025-2026. All my work will go towards bringing together the outstanding abilities of our membership to explore the boundaries of skull base surgery.
It was wonderful to see everyone in New Orleans! Partnering with the World Federation of Skull Base Societies, the meeting was one for the ages. The pre-meeting course, the scientific program, and the social events were spectacular. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue and comradery with our members in the setting of a legendary city.
Following the New Orleans meeting, planning for the NASBS Skull Base Surgery Summer Course is underway. The course will take place in New Orleans from August 14-17, 2025. We encourage all trainees, senior residents, and fellows to apply for this event! The event will be an extraordinary gathering of world-class faculty and talented trainees and will be held in the state-of-the-art cadaveric laboratory at LSU.
On behalf of the NASBS, it is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2026 NASBS Annual Meeting in the vibrant city of San Diego, California, from March 6th to March 8th. Dr. Nickalus Khan will be leading the NASBS Scientific Program, along with his co-chair Dr. Christine Dinh. This premier event promises to be an extraordinary gathering of leading experts, innovators, and passionate professionals dedicated to advancing the field of skull base surgery. The pre-meeting dissection course, always an attraction before the annual meeting, will occur March 4th to March 5th.
The theme of this year will be something that has been embraced by those that began the journey in our specialty: Anything is Possible! Obstacles, hurdles, and impediments will always be before us. However, the determination and passion in our membership – and those that will come after us – convinces me that the ‘impossible’ can always be conquered. The question that we need to ask ourselves is not ‘if’, but ‘how’!
Set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego’s scenic coastline, this year’s meeting will offer a dynamic platform for scientific advancement. Through an outstanding scientific and social program, we aim to foster meaningful discussions and inspire new advancements in our field. Beyond the meeting, San Diego offers a rich and diverse experience, from its beautiful beaches and historic sites to its renowned cuisine and cultural attractions.
If you are interested in participating in the scientific program, please email me at [email protected]. Please include a brief description of your expertise and how your topic/idea could improve the scientific program. I promise that each idea will be carefully considered and evaluated by the Scientific Program Committee.
We are excited to welcome you to what promises to be an unforgettable experience. Thank you for your dedication to the field, and we look forward to seeing you in San Diego!
Sincerely,
L. Madison Michael II, MD, FAANS
