Fellowship Program Description: | The USF Skull Base, Cerebrovascular and Complex Cranial fellowship provides an in depth post graduate training in complex tumor and open vascular neurosurgery. The case load is approximately 60% tumor, 30% vascular (aneurysm clipping, AVM resection, EC-IC bypass, carotid endarterectomy) and 10% miscellaneous including spinal cord tumors, intraventricular surgery and CSF management (CSF leak, hydrocephalus etc). About 60% of the skull base tumor work is "open" and 40% is endoscopic transnasal. The fellow functions as a PGY8 resident and shares week-end calls (chief resident call) with the other chiefs and the spine fellow. The fellows does not have attending privileges. The fellow spends 3-4 days in the operating, with the Fellowship Director or with the other skull base faculty. The fellow also participates in outpatient clinic about 1.5 days per week. The fellow is actively engaged in teaching and research and is expected to publish at least 3 peer reviewed manuscripts during his/her year in our department. |
