| Foreign Medical Graduates Eligibility Requirements | Graduates of foreign medical schools must have an ECFMG certificate to participate in accredited GME in the United States. ECFMG certification provides an assurance to residency programs that international medical graduates have met the minimum standards, including proficiency in English, required to enter such programs. |
| Fellowship Program Description: | Fellowship Applicants must submit: The objective of the training program is to produce surgeons who not only have refined their technical abilities in the full spectrum of cranial base approaches, but also have a comprehensive understanding of tumor biology along with the fundamentals of multimodality care for malignant and benign disease. A majority of the fellowship is spent on clinical service in the operating room and outpatient clinic with the program faculty. Under the guidance of the faculty, fellows are exposed to the multidisciplinary care of patients with a variety of pathologies unique to the skull base. The fellows work closely with colleagues in Head and Neck Surgery, Neuro-Otology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and Medical and Radiation Oncology. The experience centers on problem-focused decision making, the acquisition and refinement of advanced surgical techniques, as well as the study of complex anatomy of the region. They are trained in technically challenging open procedures as well as endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures. It is a unique program due to the high volume of patients seen at M.D. Anderson with malignant and benign skull base pathology along with the expertise in all treatment modalities. To supplement this intensive experience in skull base surgery, fellows will also participate in regularly occurring multidisciplinary skull base tumor boards. There is a strong academic component to the program where fellows will develop clinical research projects in conjunction with other departments. |
